About Us

IMG_0247.JPG

We're just a bunch of surfers who love God and Love people.  We are so thankful to be able to travel and surf, and we want to let our blessings overflow.  We want to spread the good news of the gospel and tell people about the love of God through Jesus Christ.  It's amazing to see what happens in someone's life when they come into a relationship with thier heavenly father after having been rejected and abused by their earthly father or mother or family or friends.  Buena Onda Surf Mission is about us putting our beliefs into action and it's our goal to help others do the same.

In the US, we all take things for granted.  People are worried about what's on facebook or the latest smart phone or other things because their essential needs such as food, clothing, and shelter are already met.  It is really an eye opener to be removed from the norm and put in a place where you see people who do struggle for those essentials.  The purpose and fulfillment you will come home with after being able to help someone in need will change your perspective on life.  To be stripped of the luxuries and distractions in your life means you have to face who you really are- it's good for the soul.

This page will give you an outline of the mission God has called us to.  We are in still in the very beginning stages of our vision and we need to come up with a lot of capitol to get where we want to be, but we firmly believe that God will provide for everything.  After all, this was all His idea!  If you want to see how we got to where we are now, read
our story.

Our Mission Statement
Our mission is to combine the recreational surf trip and faith based mission trip.  We use surfing and tourism to bring people to paradise and provide them with a life changing experience to make a positive impact on the lives of both the visitors and the local community by showing the love of Christ, not with words but with actions and in truth.   (1 John 3:18)

Our Vision
Our Vision for Buena Onda Surf Mission is to have an ongoing ministry in Mizata and beyond using surfing and every other gift that God has given us in order to help people to understand and accept the love of God through Jesus Christ and to grow in their faith.

Our Focus
The Heart-  Relationship with God, family, friends and strangers.  This is the first priority because someone can have food, clothing and a roof over their head, but if they don't have love, they have nothing.  We will minister to people of all ages through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, by facilitating local churches, bible studies and youth groups, helping to build new churches, work projects, relational ministries and just simply showing the love of Christ by giving of ourselves with no expectation of anything in return.

The Body & Mind-  Food, clothing, housing, hygeine, education, toys, jobs, etc...   This catagory is more on the humanitarian side.  If we truly love people, then naturally we will help to provide these things and more importantly help them to provide for themselves.

The Environment-  Clean water, proper waste disposal, treatment of animals, etc.  Most Salvadorans don't put the environment on their list of priorities.  They throw trash on the beach, in the rivers or where ever they are standing.  Improper farming causes erosion and depletion of topsoil.  Improper turle egg harvesting is an issue too.  Turtle eggs can provide a quick buzz to the locals and at the same time they don't really think about long term effects on the environment.  We plan to win some of these battles through relationships, by education, and most importantly by example.

Our Goals

  • Build rapor with locals and earn their trust through relationships, over time, by doing what we say we're going to do and practicing what we preach.
  • Bring small groups from the U.S. to Mizata to take part in "Surf Missions" several times a year.
  • Help plant a church in Mizata for the local community.
  • Team up with local churches from San Salvador to for ministry and to help improve the quality of health of the locals and bring in medical supplies from the US for this purpose.
  • Educate the local community on the importance of hygeine and help supply products they need (tooth paste, tooth brushes, soap, shampoo, etc.)
  • Build a facility for youth to hang out, skate, surf, and just be kids without any drug or gang influence and teach them about Jesus.
  • Build a full service hotel and ocean front restaurant at the front portion of our property and create job opportunities for locals.
  • Provide a facility and work projects in Mizata that other Christian organizations and mission groups can use to fulfill their own ministries with minimal expense.
  • Network with other ministries such as Christian Surfers, King's Castle, Young Life, etc, who are all tied to the same common purpose.
